Q. What will PaymentMate do for me?

A. PaymentMate will save you time and money, and make your job easier. PaymentMate will save you time because it quickly receives authorizations for checks, credit or debit cards over your own high-speed Internet connection, such as cable, DSL or T1. It will save you money, because it will protect you from bad checks and give you the optimal credit-debit threshold. It will also save you the expense of additional phone lines that dial-up terminals require. It will make your job easier, because the this full-featured software is so easy to use. To find out more about the many advantages of PaymentMate, check out our Software Web page, or call for a free demonstration by dialing 800.225.8979, extension 3.

Q. How easy is PaymentMate to learn to use?

A. PaymentMate is so simple to learn, most people begin using it the same day it is installed! If you can click with your mouse, type a dollar amount on your keyboard, and read simple messages that pop up on your computer monitor, you'll have no problem learning PaymentMate. When the software is installed, a knowledgeable and helpful support technician will give you a quick and comprehensive training session and answer your questions. If you have any questions afterward, all you have to do is call Tempus Technologies, Inc. at 800.225.8979, extension 4, and speak to a live support technician. See for yourself how simple it is to learn PaymentMate. Watch our online training videos, or browse our support and training documents.

Q. How fast does PaymentMate get check and card authorizations?

A. If you've ever used dial-up to connect to the Internet at home and then switched to cable or DSL, you've probably appreciated the increased speed of your Internet browsing. You will likely appreciate the speed of PaymentMate, as well! Since PaymentMate uses your own high-speed connection to the Internet, it is significantly faster than terminals that use traditional dial-up connections. Most transactions take fewer seconds than you can count on one hand. If you were using such terminals in the past, you will love the significant reduction in transaction time. Your customers will love it, too!

Q. Can I run PaymentMate on my own computers?

A. Sure! If your personal computers were purchased after the year 2000, you should be able to use PaymentMate. PaymentMate is compatible with most Microsoft® Windows® operating systems, including Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP (Professional Edition and Home Editions), and Windows Vista (all editions). It is not compatible with non-Windows operating systems, such as Mac or Linux, nor with operating systems Microsoft no longer supports, such as Windows 98.

Q. What equipment will I need?

A. Since PaymentMate runs on your own personal computers, you won't have to purchase any costly terminals or additional phone lines. If you are going to process checks, you might need a check reader or imager, which your First Data or TeleCheck representative will order for you. Most check readers and imagers come with an optional magnetic card reader swipe, so that you can use it to process credit, debit and gift cards. If you will not be processing checks, all you will need are less expensive card swipes to connect to your computers. Most customers purchase the equipment, but leasing options are available for some customers. Ask your representative what options will work best for you.

Q. I have my own equipment. Will I need to order new equipment?

A. If you already have a check reader or imager, magnetic card reader, or PIN pad, it must be compatible with PaymentMate. To see a list of compatible equipment, check out our
POS and Computer Accessories Web page. If you are using a Verifone 1000 PIN pad, it will have to be sent to First Data to be encrypted before you can use it with PaymentMate. After your First Data or TeleCheck representative submits a referral to Tempus Technologies, Inc., a sales assistant from Tempus Technologies, Inc. will call you and verify whether your existing equipment is compatible with PaymentMate.

Q. Can I use PaymentMate without equipment?

A. Yes, depending on what First Data and TeleCheck services you want. For example, if you want to use the TeleCheck LockBox PayIt service, you do need a check imager that will save an image of the check. On the other hand, if you want to use the Checks by Phone service, no check imager is required. If you are processing Mail-Order, Telephone-Order credit cards, you do not need a magnetic card reader. However, if you want to process PIN debit cards, you will need a PIN pad for your customers to type their PIN numbers. To learn more about the different check services supported by PaymentMate, check out our PaymentMate Checks Web page. To find out about credit and debit card processing, see our
PaymentMate Credit and Debit Web page.
